Labor has missed the point ! That’s it in a nut shell. The middle class are mad as hell so to speak , over what you ask ? Over the state of the economy. they are concerned about their taxes , their pensions , and their health care costs. Those three horsemen have led the way towards the backlash in congress , and the state . through out the campaign the labor organizations failed to identify the base. The members voted for change , the members embraced the fear and hoped that there voice would be heard. Unfortunately their voice was overwhelmed by the Tea party rhetoric. If we look closely at the tea party's basic platform is it so different from the members labor represents ? No ! The problem is how to focus that fear , and disdain into a cohesive message that rises above the rhetoric. Labor needs to take stock in it's base , and concentrate on Who WILL bring about the changes that are needed to reinvigorate the economy , and stop the race to the bottom on wages and benefits. They need to stem the tide of slash and burn mentality that prevails in the extreme right of the Republican party. Republicans are not our enemies , extremists are. Recently The rally to restore sanity brought out a very poignant and enlightening fact. We the people are really in the middle , surrounded by fear mongers , and loud mouths. never before has it become so important for the "Silent Majority" to find a voice, this is where Labor unions need to set up shop. Just how far apart are the people who want government out of their pocket , and union members who want to keep the money they earn in their pockets ? It is the distance between these pockets that separate them . I don't know about you but my pockets are in the same pair of pants.
